The Evolution of Power Pitching

14th April, 2023

Notoriously, when people think about PR and the various components that come with the job they relate it to being fast-paced, high pressure and tight turnarounds. With PR’s often struggling to get face time with the right media in time for key occasions.

CIJ Group created Power Pitching as a solution to alleviate some of these pressures. Power Pitching events facilitate collaborative product pitching that connect PRs with up to 30 top-tier journalists. The best way to describe it is “speed dating meets dragons den”.

Courtney Rogers our Founder said:

The idea came off the back of The Big Christmas Press Show, our annual event where brands and retailers come together to showcase their Christmas collections to the media. Our clients began asking if we offered any other collaborative PR solutions, around other key gifting occasions such as Mother’s Day. From this feedback the idea of Power Pitching was born!”

We wanted to make sure that we were offering a time saving solution, in which PR’s were meeting up to 30 journalists per hour rather than just 1 or 2. Power Pitching not only enables you to meet with a high volume of media in a short time, but allows you to solely focus on forming relationships and showcasing your products!

Now in its fourth year, the Power Pitching process has evolved. We now have an event tailored to every key gifting occasion and across a number of verticals throughout the calendar year. The pandemic saw us best utilise the situation of uncertainty by taking our events online! Even today, we have found that 95% of the journalists feel the virtual press events are useful in curating their content for upcoming features.

We have just seen our 50th virtual event take place in February. We caught up with our founder Courtney who told us all about the method behind the magic. In which we have worked with a variety of brands across multiple industries, including to date 213 brands and retailers and 56 PR agencies that have taken part in Power Pitching and used it to elevate their PR strategies.

Leading brands and retailers are continuing to trust Power Pitching such as Marks & Spencer, JoJo Maman Bébé, Wayfair, Not on The High Street and Moonpig. Leading agencies like Hatch PR, Kaizo and Playtime PR have represented their clients at an impressive 10+ Power Pitching events, whilst we have Moonpig that have taken part in an amazing 22 events!
